CALENDARIO DE FIESTAS DEL MUNICIPIO DE NEVADA / FIESTAS IN NEVADA

ENERO

6 DE ENERO: La Procesión de los Manchos - Laroles
Bajada de los santos patrones del pueblo, San Sebastián y San Antonio Abad, de la ermita a la iglesia.

17-2O DE ENERO: Moros y Cristianos - Laroles (celebrado en el fin de semana más próximo al día 20)
Una de las más famosas recreaciones y escenificaciones de los Moros y Cristianos en La Alpujarra.
Una puesta en escena histórica entre dos bandos enfrentados, todo enmarcado con el imponente estruendo de los trabucos.

31 DE ENERO: Fiesta de los Quintos, en honor a San Cecilio - Picena (celebrado en el fin de semana más próximo al día 31)
Los quintos, para todos los desconocedores de estas tradiciones, son los varones jóvenes en edad de realizar el servicio militar. Según la tradición es el paso de la adolescencia a la etapa adulta. Para celebrarlo los jóvenes salen montados a caballo al campo a recoger leña para construir un "chisco".
Al día siguiente, se celebra la procesión de San Cecilio.

25 DE ABRIL: San Marcos, fiesta de primavera por toda la Alpujarra.
- LAROLES: se hace una procesión por la mañana con el Santo mientras que se reparten roscos de pan a todos los asistentes, la tradición marca que el reparto de roscos también incluye a los animales, ya que San Marcos es el patrón del animal doméstico.
- MAIRENA: Por la tarde una procesión sale del pueblo hasta la Piedra de los Tiempos, una roca a la que atribuyen poderes beneficiosos sobre las cosechas. Después, se reparten roscos y se disfruta de un tradicional puchero de hinojos y cardos en la plaza de la iglesia para todos los asistentes.
A la noche se realiza una verbena. San Marcos normalmente marca el final de la Semana Cultural, con sus varios eventos culturales.

En Mairena, se sigue celebrando la costumbre de lavarse la cara en la Fuente Alta. Esta costumbre se hace en Laroles en la Fuente Mauricio.

AGOSTO SEMANA CULTURAL, LAROLES
Una semana de diversos eventos culturales: teatro, cine, concursos, actuaciones y actividades infantiles. Además del festival de música de pop-rock amenizado después con sesiones de Djs.

FINALES DE AGOSTO: Representación de los Moros y Cristianos en Picena en honor a la Virgen del Rosario.
El primer día, el bando de los Cristianos lleva a la Virgen del Rosario, patrona del pueblo, hasta las afueras de Picena. Ahí se representa la primera parte de la batalla y los Moros ganadores llevan a la Virgen de vuelta a la iglesia. El día siguiente, los cristianos salen victoriosos.

FINALES DE AGOSTO: Fiesta del Santo Cristo de la Columna -Júbar
Dura un solo día, con misa por la mañana, procesión por la tarde y a la noche verbena popular al aire libre.

18 DE SEPTIEMBRE: Fiesta del Santo Cristo de la Luz - Mairena (celebrado en el fin de semana más próxima al día 18)
Se hace una procesión con el Cristo en la tarde del sábado. Se hacen también carreras de cintas donde hombres montados a caballo (primer día) recogen las cintas que las mujeres han elaborado durante todo el año. Antiguamente representaba además como los enamorados recogían las cintas elaboradas por sus amadas.

6th JANUARY: The Procession of the Manchos, Laroles
Procession to take the patron saints of the village, San Sebastian and San Antonio Abad, from the ermita (chapel) to the church.

17-20th JANUARY: Moors and Christians, Laroles (celebrated on the weekend dosest to lanuary 20th)
One of the most famous representations of the traditional Moors and Christians fiestas in the Alpujarra. An historical reenactment of the struggle between two groups at war, accompanied by the unceasing sound of bangers and crackers.

31st JANUARY: La Fiesta de los Quintos, in honour of San Cecilio - Picena (celebrated on the weekend dosest to the 31st)
For those unfamifiar with local custom, 'los quintos' was the name given to young men of an eligible age for military service. Traditionally, it marked the transition from adolescence to adulthood. In celebration of this, the young men ride out into the countryside to find firewood for an enormous bonfire (or chisco). The next day, there is a procession with San Cecilio.

25th APRIL: San Marcos, a spring festival throughout the Alpujarra
- LAROLES: there is a procession in the morning with the statue of the saint, and traditional bread rings or roscos are given out. Tradition dictates that even the animals are qiven roscos since San Marcos is the patron saint of domestic animals.
- MAIRENA: in the afternoon, a procession walks up to the Piedra de /os Tiempos (lit. translated as the Weather Rock), a rock said to have a benign influence over the harvest. After roscos have been qiven out, an enormous fennel stew is served in the church square. San Marcos normally marks the end of the Semana Cultural (or Cultural Week) of Mairena, when various cultural events take place.

NIGHT OF SAN JUAN (23rd JUNE): In Mairena, they still celebrate the tradition of washing your face after midnight in the Fuente Alta. In Laroles, they do the same in the Fuente Mauricio.

AUGUST: Semana Cultural, Laroles
A week of various cultural activities. theatre, cinema, competitions, performances and children's activities, in addition to a pop-rock festival followed by DJ sessions.

END OF AUGUST: Reenactment of the Moors and Christians, Picena The first day, the Christians take the statue of the Virgen del Rosario, patron saint of the village, to the outskirts of the village. There, the first part of the battle is enacted and the Moors take the Virgin back to the church. The second day, they reverse roles and the Chrlstians win.

END OF AUGUST: Fiesta de Santo Cristo del Columna- Júbar
Lasting only one day, there is a mass in the morninq, a procession in the afternoon and a dance in the evening.

18th SEPTEMBER: Fiesta de Santo Cristo de la luz - Mairena (celebrated the weekend dosest to the 18th of September).
There is á procession on the Saturday afternoon with the saint. Traditional races are also held where the men, on horseback (on the first day of celebrations), try to hook ribbons that the women have been sewinq throughout the year. Originally, the men tried to win their sweethearts' ribbon.
